Poffertjes (Dutch Pancakes)

Mini pancakes treat part of Dutch tradition

Dutch pancakes known as poffertjes, resembles mini  pancakes and are traditionally made with buckwheat and yeast. The texture is best described as light and spongy. Poffertjes are typically a festive holiday sweet treat served up with powdered sugar and sometimes syrup, whip cream, Nutella, and fruit toppings. Portions are usually served in one or two dozens and the cook prepares them fresh in a paper container with small wooden fork. A special cast-iron or copper pan with shallow indentations (filled with batter) is  required.

Poffertjes factoid —

Though its historical ties are with the former Dutch colony, poffertjes are also known in Indonesian cuisine culture. Poffertjes are also thought to have some similarities with Indian paniyaram and Japanese takoyaki.
