HOK brings equitable design to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

HOK’s modernization of the domestic terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport creates a memorable new entry point into Atlanta. Upgrades include modernization of the security checkpoints, a contemporary, metal-and-glass façade replacement of the 40-year-old building, and new pedestrian bridges over the existing roadways. The centerpieces of the modernization, however, are the twin, 864-foot-long canopies that shelter passengers during pick-up and drop-off and create stunning displays of light visible from air and land.

Earlier this year our work at the airport earned HOK an ATLNext SOAR Award, recognizing a joint- venture team that demonstrates excellence in diversity and inclusion. Our partnership with CHASM Architecture and Stanley Love Stanley brought exceptional design to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport while opening doors for MBEs to flourish. Our commitment to inclusive design ran throughout the course of the project. It was not a “box to be checked,” but rather a mentality adopted by every member of our team.

To help foster more great partnerships like the ones with CHASM and Stanley Love Stanley, we recently launched HOK Tapestry. HOK Tapestry is an online registry that allows small, minority and women- owned business to directly enter their credentials into our project-partner database and have access to HOK-led training and networking. Through Tapestry, we hope to expand our list of qualified partners, suppliers, and subcontractors in order to curate better project teams and foster greater equity within the design and construction industry.

Businesses interested in registering in HOK Tapestry may do so at hoktapestry.com.
